Santa Monica is a seaside city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Founded in 1886, the city covers an area of 21.8 square kilometers and has a population of more than 90,000. The city is named after the Christian saint Monica and has become a tourist destination because of its pleasant climate.
Santa Monica is home to many world-renowned companies, including Universal Music Group, Lionsgate Films, Rand Corporation, Beach Fitness, Macerich, Super Marlin and Atlantic Airlines at Santa Monica Airport. The famous American fast-food chain Fatburger and the famous shoe company TOMS Shoes are headquartered in Santa Monica. It is also home to a large number of game developers and hundreds of high-tech start-ups, and is known as "Silicon Beach".
Hechuan District and Santa Monica City formed a friendship city relationship in October 2015.
Exchanges between Hechuan District and Santa Monica City
In 2015, Yu Hong, Secretary-General of the US Sino Friendship Association, visited Hechuan District. He also visited the Wuzhoulong New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd., an equipment manufacturer in Hechuan District, Chongqing Hilan Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a local pharmaceutical enterprise, and the Diaoyu Fortress. In May 2015, a delegation of Western U.S. mayors visited Hechuan District, Chongqing Hilan Pharmaceutical Co. and the Diaoyu Fortress. During the visit, Santa Monica City Councilor Pam O'Connor had a friendly exchange with officials of Hechuan District, and the two sides signed an agreement of intent to form a friendship city relationship. In October 2015, under the unified arrangement of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government organized officials of Hechuan District to attend the 2nd U.S.-China Sister Cities Conference in the United States. Officials of Hechuan District signed an agreement on establishing friendship city relations with Santa Monica. On August 2, 2019, Xu Wanzhong, District Mayor of Hechuan District Government, and Wu Jingming, Deputy District Mayor of Hechuan District Government, participated in the activities related to the visit of California dignitaries delegation to Chongqing, and reached a consensus with Gleam Davis, mayor of Santa Monica, on the continuation of sister city relations.
