Chongqing- Chongqing's water and air quality passed a national examination and reached national standard, respectively, according to a press conference on Chongqing's ecological and environmental protection work under the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) on January 5.

Xin Shijie, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Chongqing Ecological Environment Bureau stated that by the end of 2020, Chongqing's section of the Yangtze River had excellent water quality. Specifically, the proportion of good quality water in 42 national examination sections in Chongqing reached 100% for the first time.

In addition, statistics show that the number of days with good air quality in central Chongqing was 333 days last year, of which 135 days were qualified as good. Compared with 2015, the number of days with good air quality increased by 41 days, and the number of days with good air quality increased by 80 days. The concentration of PM2.5 dropped from 57 micrograms/cubic meter in 2015 to 33 micrograms/cubic meter in 2020, reaching the national standard for the first time.

Over the past five years, Chongqing has made every effort to fight water pollution prevention and control and issued a series of important documents and measures, including Opinions on Promoting the Development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and Accelerating the Construction of Beautiful Mountains and Waters, and Chongqing City Implementation of Eco-Priority Green Development Action Plan (2018-2020).

This highlights the effectiveness of implementing precise, scientific, and legal pollution control and improving the city's ecological environment.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Chongqing will continue to work on countermeasures for pollution prevention and control, promote the green transformation of economic and social development, as well as the ecological construction of  Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle. 

More importantly, Chongqing strives to play a greater role and display greater accomplishments in encouraging and accelerating the Yangtze River Economic Belt's green development.
