On December 10, Chongqing Municipal Health Commission, Chongqing Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government jointly organized an event Consular Corps’ Visit for Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture at Chongqing Municipal TCM Hospital. A number of consular officers in Chongqing and representatives of Chongqing offices of relevant foreign institutions were present to experience the TCM culture.

At the activity, the foreign guests got to know the structure and services of a TCM institution in a visit to the outpatient clinics, international acupuncture cooperation zone, TCM experience hall, and TCM specialized departments of the hospital. They had a firsthand experience of TCM health preservation methods, TCM techniques such as massotherapy and cupping, TCM health-preserving tea, herbal cuisine, TCM sachet, Chinese herbal bandhnu, and inscription rubbing.

In recent years, Chongqing has made remarkable achievements in boosting the open development of traditional Chinese medicine. Chongqing Health Commission signed memorandums of understanding on health and TCM sectors with the Republic of Belarus, Uzbekistan, etc. Two TCM international cooperation bases were built, and a China-Singapore Internet + TCM Further Education project was launched. Chongqing has worked on developing TCM service trade and its pilot statistics and on establishing national TCM service export bases. The government has adopted multiple channels and methods to drive the TCM sector to go global and continuously expand its international influence.

The event is an international TCM culture exchange and publicity project of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Inviting foreigners to experience TCM in person has become a critical approach to increase the foreign market presence of TCM.

Consular officers in Chongqing from Japan, the U.K., Italy, Ethiopia, Hungary, Singapore, South Korea, etc. as well as representatives of the Chongqing offices of relevant foreign institutions and representatives of international media in Chongqing attended the event.
