At the press conference of Chongqing “Smart Hospital” Demonstration Construction on November 19, another 15 hospitals, including The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University and Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children, were rated as “smart hospital” demonstration construction units. So far, there are 25 such units across the city.

Last year, while encouraging those hospitals to make a pilot in building smart hospitals, Chongqing established an evaluation system for smart hospitals based on the overall framework of national evaluation index system for Wise Information Technology of 120 (WIT120) and evaluation indexes for intelligent hospitals. It accordingly selected the first 10 “smart hospital” demonstration construction units.

This year, a total of 30 hospitals across Chongqing applied for the evaluation of “smart hospital,” 20 of which entered the final evaluation stage, and 15 of which were selected. Particularly, Chongqing Emergency Medical Center was rated as Grade IV “Smart Hospital” from Grade III last year.

There is an example from Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children. Patients can finish procedures from appointment register and physical examination results checking to payment through the facial recognition system on the self-service terminals, without patient ID cards. “In promoting the construction of the smart hospital, we try our best to eliminate the shortcomings and weak links of medical services to build a characteristic appointment system through precise appointments, one-stop service, and facial recognition.” According to a staff member of the hospital, the average appointment rate of the hospital reaches 76.7%. Moreover, parking fees, canteen order, and map navigation can also be completed through mobile phones.

With the further integration of the Internet, Internet of Things, big data and artificial intelligence (AI) with medical and health services, as well as the coordinated development and deep application of advanced technologies such as perceptual identification, cognitive computing, man-machine coordination, intelligent monitoring and precision medical care with the construction of smart hospitals, it is planned that by 2022 more than 50% of public hospitals above Grade II across the city will meet the requirements of Grade III “Smart Hospital”, according to the Plan for New Smart City Construction of Chongqing (2019-2022) and the Chongqing Smart Medical Service Work Program.
