Chongqing- On November 13, CCDR Master Tour Class (Chongqing) Imprints of City — Urban Organic Renovation New Economy Forum was held at Chongqing Planning Exhibition Gallery. Numerous industrial leaders gathered to offer suggestions on urban organic renewal in the city of Chongqing.

Li Xiangbei, the designer of Hongya Cave, recommended that Chongqing string famous attractions such as Hongyadong, Chaotianmen Square, Testbed 2 Arts Center, and the Beicang Cultural & Creative Quarter. “They are like acupuncture points. Changing them will influence the city’s overall environment, which will refresh visitors’ impression on Chongqing.”  Li thought the city could carry out systematical space planning, integrating scattered attractions via transportation channels. With such efforts, tourists can communicate with local people.

Li Yijun, Executive Director of the China Center for Decoration and New Economic Research (CCDR), said urban renewal needed traditional, cultural, and economic elements. For example, Hongyadong reconstruction revitalized tourism in Chongqing, more than the attraction itself. All participants can be benefited: investors will profit; citizens and visitors have a better experience.

“Chongqing welcomes a turning point of revitalization.” Wei Xiaolong, General Manager of the Cushman & Wakefield (Chongqing), believed scales, elements, and participants are three factors Chongqing should take into consideration when promoting urban organic renovation. “Dynamic Two Rivers and Four Riversides should pay more attention to citizen engagement and the establishment of public spaces. Chongqing should make these areas a window for the outside world to understand its urban construction and historical and cultural background,” said Wei, and then advised learning from foreign cities, such as London and Paris, and domestic ones, including Shanghai, in developing functional installations in the Two Rivers and Four Riversides. The former two have diversified business models along rivers related to culture, business, science and technology, and trade. The latter has several systematical functions after years of organic renewal along the Huangpu River.
