Chinese New Year Pictures exhibition in Chongqing.

The Chinese Lunar New Year is coming.  The traditional New Year paintings were one of the most popular Chinese folk art decorations in the past thousands of years, but they are rare in recent decades. Some folk collectors exhibit their collections in Chongqing. Meanwhile, they share their knowledge of the beautiful arts.

Two exhibitions on New Year Pictures

On 6th Jan.2019, Mr.Li Lian, a collector, and a volunteer for traditional culture protecting organization gave a lecture on the Chinese New Year Pictures in Zengjiayan Bookstore. Meanwhile, he exhibits some of his collections on Chinese New Year Paintings from 2000 pieces of his personal collections in Chongqing. One exhibition is in Hemei Yard, Ciqikou ancient town, the other is in Zengjiayan Bookstore in downtown Chongqing. 

"It's a good wish of the Chinese people, to put the New Year Pictures on their front door. Some people hope to drive the evils away from their family by putting the Paintings on the door. " Mr.Li explained. The traditional procedure of New Year Paintings consists of wooded board carving, painting, rubbing, all of handmade. Liangping Chongqing is one of the major production areas of New Year Pictures in China.

"We are holding a New Year Pictures DIY activities on 20th, Jan., you can rub the New Year Pictures with the guidance of experts, and try the Spring Festival Writings, here in the bookstore. " Mrs. Lv Zhen, the owner of Zengjiayan Bookstore told iChongqing. "You will find the charm of the traditional Chinese culture here." Lv smiled.
