Chongqing- Yang Liping's dance drama,  "The Peacock," will run for five consecutive days at Chongqing Grand Theater from Oct 10, 2022. It was Yang's first performance at Chongqing Grand Theater five years after her performance in 2017's "Peacock of Winter."

The super main creative cast gathers the essence of Yang Liping's dance art

"The Peacock" is a dance work created and launched by Yang in 2012, adapted from Yang's famous work "Spirit of Peacock." The dance drama shows the magical peacock world of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. It depicts many peacock portraits with great metaphors and is full of ethnic customs, which conveys the artist's thinking and understanding of art and life in the process of growing up.

The 2022 version of "The Peacock" is directed by Yang, a famous dance artist, and has a strong cast, including the winner of the Oscar Award for Best Art Direction and renowned visual artist Ye Jintian. The whole play brings together the essence of Yang's dance art, which is her ultimate inquiry into life.

"The Peacock is a wonderful dance drama that tells a story about nature, life, growth, humanity, and love. It flows in my body. It expresses itself with emotion," said Yang.

As a special actress, Yang personally participated in the "winter" chapter of the dance drama "The Peacock." In the cycle of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, when all things wither and become silent, the peacock shows the beauty of life, dancing against the snow and being reborn from nirvana. "As I get older, I have a new appreciation for life. I hope the audience will feel the beauty of life through my performance of the peacock in winter," Yang added.

In the cycle of four seasons, "The Peacock" shows the beauty of life

In the 2022 version of the dance drama "The Peacock," more oriental aesthetics are integrated into the stage artistic creation. Yang has positioned herself as a "muster," allowing more young dancers to play the lead roles and discover their energy on stage so that each dancer has their characteristics.

In the past ten years, "The Peacock" has performed more than 370 performances in 40 cities worldwide and has been loved and supported by the audience. "I was particularly impressed that I gave the stage to the next generation of young dancers ten years later," said Yang.
