Chongqing- iChongqing reporter James took part in a video to promote family tourism during the summer in Wansheng Economic and Technological Development Zone in southern Chongqing, replete with mountain scenery dotted with picturesque and laid-back villages.

Since multiple travel routes appeal to different age groups and backgrounds, the family event saw a variety of activities that included fresh blueberry and leisurely fishing in a local brook in Yuzi Village.

Wansheng offers the idyllic backdrop of green mountains and lush countryside that make for a refreshing getaway from the downtown heat, thanks to the pristine environment located around 1,100 meters above sea level.

Between filming all the different scenes, such as driving along the windy country roads in state-of-the-art electric vehicles, James whipped out his pocket camera and captured as much of the travel experience for this vlog.

Wansheng makes for a stunning travel destination, and the beautiful weather we encountered made the pastoral scenes even more glorious at this relatively unknown tourism gem of Chongqing Municipality.

Wansheng once prospered thanks to abundant coal resources. The name "Great Prosperity" originates from the Tongzhi period in the Qing Dynasty when merchants gathered here in droves and fueled a large market for inns and guesthouses.

Since it was listed as a resource-exhausted city in 2009, Wansheng has remodeled the local economy based on the innovative model of blending cultural tourism with sports.

In fact, the city has already produced many successful badminton players and coaches, such as Zhong Bo, Zhang Yawen, and Pi Hongyan, leading to Wansheng being referred to as the "Hometown of Badminton."

There are presently 22 scenic areas and over 30 boutique tourism routes themed on sports, culture, and rural tourism, all backed by a modern transport network, including the Tourism Ring Road, which has made the attractions of Wansheng convenient to visit from inside Chongqing and neighboring provinces.

Wansheng has also built over 40 tourism projects themed on sports, including the Banliao Sands Water Sports Park and a first Olympic Park to be built amidst a mountain setting. These new venues regularly hold international tournaments for badminton and sports fishing, while more than 60 events based on sports tourism like the National Orienteering Championship attract enthusiasts from all over the country.
