Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality is accelerating its layout in the field of hydrogen energy and promoting the green transformation of the automobile industry.

On March 2, the first national hydrogen power quality supervision and inspection center in China started construction in Liangjiang, New Area.

On March 8, CS75 was selected into the 341st batch of new cars from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Being multi-purpose, it is the first fuel-cell SUV of Chang'an Automobile.

On March 15, Genlyon H6, the first series of hydrogen-powered heavy trucks of Chongqing, was inspected by engineers outside the special assembly workshop of Saic-Iveco Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd.

Covering about 12.7 hectares, the first national hydrogen power quality supervision and inspection center was invested 500 million yuan (about 76.8 million U.S. dollars) by China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd. It is planned that the center will be completed and put into use by 2022.

Besides, another major project in the hydrogen field will also be commenced soon.

Head of Mingtian Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. said that a series of projects invested by the company would start construction in June 2021. They include a fuel cell southwest engineering center, a fuel cell vehicle maintenance center, and a fuel cell system and core components R&D and production base. In addition, the company will produce 1,000 fuel cell systems by 2022.

After launching these projects, the company will join hands with the local government, universities, and upstream and downstream enterprises to boost Chongqing's hydrogen energy industry based on the city's strong automobile industry foundation.

At present, the cooperation in hydrogen energy in the Chengdu-Chongqing area is deepening. The area has owned nearly 200 enterprises and research institutions engaged in the hydrogen energy industry. With a good foundation, the industrial chain has been basically completed.

In the next step, Chongqing also plans to promote the hydrogen energy industry's demonstration operation through platform construction and ecological development. It's slated to further explore the application scenarios of hydrogen energy vehicles in municipal sanitation, public transportation, logistics transportation, Yangtze River shipping, and other aspects, thus comprehensively facilitating industrial growth.
