On February 18, the first working day in the Year of the Ox, the launch ceremony of the first batch of major projects of the Rongchang-Neijiang Modern Agricultural High-tech Industry Demonstration Zone in 2021 was staged in Rongchang. The commencement of six major projects jointly launched by the two places marks the official start of the Demonstration Zone's construction, the country's first national cross-provincial-level administrative region demonstration zone modern agricultural high-tech industry in its southwestern region.

The joint construction of the Demonstration Zone of Rongchang and Neijiang constitutes an important measure to implement the national strategy of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle. In December 2020, the Planning Outline for the Construction of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle proposed to "build a modern and efficient characteristic agricultural belt" and "jointly build a national agricultural high-tech industry demonstration zone."

In January 2021, Sichuan and Chongqing jointly issued planning for the joint implementation of the outline for the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, according to which Neijiang and Rongchang would build a modern agricultural high-tech industry demonstration zone as an exemplary national model. The Demonstration Zone is the only one based on agriculture and rural areas among the nine cooperative functional platforms built by Sichuan and Chongqing's adjacent areas.

In 2020 alone, 52 action plans were signed between governments, departments, and enterprises of the two places, giving a strong boost to implementing a number of agreements, projects, and matters related to cooperation.
