Built during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, this riverside ancient town is steeped in history and culture. Wanling has long enjoyed the reputation of being an "Immigrant Riverside Town", with beautiful sceneries, gastronomic delights, and unique folk culture.
During the Southern Song Dynasty, Wanling became a water terminal and a distribution center for the transportation of goods and materials, transporting water, grain, and even money and producing honey. The town was named one of Chongqing's Famous Towns of History and Culture in 2002 and a National 4A scenic area in 2014.
