Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) signed a cooperation agreement on co-building CAS Chongqing Science Center at Western (Chongqing) Science City on December 15.

The CAS Chongqing Science Center will be built based on a legal person institution and several research institutions to coordinate CAS’s research institutes, talented research people, and other innovation resources in Chongqing for intensive development.

Focusing on big data and intelligent technologies, biomedicine, new material, and ecological environment, CAS will prioritize the building of high-level research platforms including industrial innovation, the frontier of basic sciences, and major scientific and technological infrastructure, to integrate the combination of science and education resources, institutional innovation and major research outputs.

Focusing on new material, the Chinese Academy of Sciences will prioritize the building of high-level research platforms.

In addition, the two sides will work together to accelerate the development of Chongqing College of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and provide support for Chongqing General Hospital, UCAS, give full play to their respective advantages to support the Double First-class development of universities in Chongqing through discipline construction, research cooperation, training, and faculty exchange, to promote the development of science and education integration in Chongqing.

Furthermore, they will collaborate in industry-university-research cooperation, ecological civilization construction, and talent exchange and training.

Meanwhile, the Chongqing Research Institute of CAS has also actively explored a model for the rapid transfer of scientific research results to the market, successfully established the National Technology Transfer Demonstration Institution under the Ministry of Science and Technology, and promoted to build Chongqing Graphene Industrial Park, Changshou CAS Future City Innovation Industrial Park and Jiangbei Incubation Center, facilitating the efficient transformation of scientific research results.

Some technological results related to the face recognition system developed by the Intelligent Security Technology Research Center of the Institute have been applied in 70 airports in China.

The whole-process facial recognition-based access system developed by the Center is the only one that has been officially approved by the Civil Aviation Administration for trial operation in China, which has led to the development of China’s smart finance and smart security industries.

As an important deployment of CAS in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, CAS Chongqing Science Center will gather more high-quality innovation resources of CAS in Chongqing, pushing the efficient connection between related institutions Chongqing and high-quality innovation resources, and promoting the deep industry-university-research cooperation.

Since 2018, Chongqing has vigorously implemented action plans on introducing sci-tech innovation resources by strengthening open cooperation on innovation.

In addition to CAS, Chongqing has introduced a total of 85 well-known universities, institutions, and enterprises at home and abroad, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, and China Electronics Technology Group for scientific and technological innovation cooperation.

Furthermore, a total of 39 R&D institutions have been established, injecting new vitality into big data, intelligent supercomputing, integrated circuits, ecological and environmental protection, biomedicine, high-end equipment, and new materials.
