Located in southwest Jiangjin District, Baisha Town gets its name because the sand grains along the Yangtze River reflect white in the sun. It was built in the late Eastern Han Dynasty (25–220 A.D.) and recorded in the Yuanfeng Jiuyu Zhi in the Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127 A.D.).

With a history of more than a thousand years, Baisha Town is built by the river and prospers by the water, and has grown into a town with a large population. With some intangible cultural heritages, such as spirit brewing techniques, the celebration of the Lantern Festival, and juggling, the town has the first intangible cultural heritage incubator park in Chongqing.

A Touching Love Story

If you take your beloved to the "Ladder of Love", there will be a different meaning. Here is a moving love story. In the 1950s, Liu Guojiang, a 20-year-old farmer in Zhongshan Ancient Town, Jiangjin District, fell in love with Xu Chaoqing, a pretty widow 10 years older than him. In order to avoid gossip from others, the two eloped to remote deep mountains. For the sake of Xu’s safe travel, Liu had been busy all his life in cutting stone ladders on the cliffs. There are 6,208 steps, known as the "Ladder of Love".

Baisha Town

Baisha Town, through which the Yangtze River flows, is surrounded by streams, stones of various shapes, deep valleys, waterfalls, and towering old trees, and retains its natural simplicity and solemnity. It is the first choice for shooting TV dramas on the subject of the War of Resistance. The Gouzhou Peninsula under its administration is home to Wen Zhong, a wise official in ancient times.

Simian Mountain

Simian Mountain, located in southern Jiangjin District, is a collection of magnificent mountains, deep forests, murmuring streams, gorgeous waterfalls, and grotesque rocks, creating complex, interconnected, interdependent, unique, and diversified tourism resources. The vegetation since the third century has been well preserved there, such as palaeotropical and temperate tropical plants 350 million years ago.
