On December 30, 2019, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport published a set of data: up to the year-end, Chongqing has opened 95 international (regional) airlines, including 64 lines along the Belt and Road routes.

It marks that Chongqing has stepped closer to an international aviation hub.

“In the year of 2019, we have opened 13 international airlines and are striving to develop a midway airport in the world’s aviation network and promote the connectivity by air with countries and regions along the Belt and Road,” said one airport official. With the accelerating construction progress of the international aviation hub, by 2035, Chongqing will be connected by airlines with over 100 cities around the world, with a total of passenger throughput of over 24 million.

From 20 to 27 in December, Chongqing has opened the airlines to Luang Prabang and Vientiane in Laos, Okinawa in Japan, and Budapest in Hungary. It was the first time for Chongqing to open four international airlines within a week.

Next, Chongqing will open the third international corridor based on the existing Belt and Road airlines. The first one starts from Europe, transits at Chongqing, and is bound for Oceania; the second one departs from Africa, transits at Chongqing, and is destined for Northeast Asia; the third is from South Asia to North America, with Chongqing as the transfer station.

According to Chongqing Airport Group, recently, after the approval of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Chongqing Airport has increased the hourly capacity during peak hours again, from 49 sorties to 54 sorties.

Currently, the feasibility report of the terminal T3B and the fourth runway has already been submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission, and the review process has started. Notably, the conceptual design of the terminal building has already been completed, and the construction of the terminal T3B and the fourth runway will begin next year.

On December 30, a four-seat fixed-wing aircraft CG231, which is jointly developed by Chongqing General Aviation Industry Group and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and with an intellectual property right, made its debut at the Longxing General Airport in Liangjiang New Area.
