First Customized Train Carrying Russian Timber Arrived at Guoyuan Port of Liangjiang New Area

A 52-container train carrying timber panels from Russia successfully arrived at Guoyuan Port, Chongqing Liangjiang New Area before June 4. The Port, therefore, embraced its first customized train carrying Russian timber.

Russia is one of China’s essential sources of imported timber. The batch of imported wood destined for Guoyuan Port was transported by the China Railway Express train from Russia. It arrived in Chongqing after three days’ domestic journey via Alashankou in Xinjiang.

“Strict fire prevention measures and discharging process during the loading and unloading are adopted to keep stevedores and timber panels safe due to the special classification, long journey, and unclear loading condition,” said the head of Yuzui Freight Marshalling Yard. “The overtime work leads to 52 containers unloaded in the designated location, thus ensuring the normal operation of other goods at the Port.”

Yuzui Freight Marshalling Yard, or Yuzhui Railway Station, is said to be an original station of Chongqing-Huaihua Railway, 5 kilometers away from Guoyuan Port. To advance Chongqing’s multi-modal transport network, a dedicated railway line starting from Yuzui Freight Marshalling Yard to Guoyuan Port has been constructed to connect the Chongqing-Huaihua Railway.

Moreover, Yuzui Freight Marshalling Yard will strengthen the cooperation with countries and regions along the Belt and Road routes for more imported goods to Chongqing and a better life for Chongqing residents.

These countries and regions represented by Russia are the critical areas of Chongqing’s foreign trade. In 2018, the imports and exports between Chongqing and Russia totaled RMB 4.852 billion, up 18.8 percent year on year. Exports reached RMB 4.394 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 19.4 percent. Meanwhile, imports totaled RMB 458 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 12.7 percent. There are 12 Russia-funded enterprises in Chongqing, and five registered Chongqing-funded enterprises have invested in Russia.
