As spring comes, the 500-mu (0.3km²) sea of blooming flowers is waiting for tourists in Zhaishanping Village, Hangu Town, Jiulongpo District. From February 25, the flowering phase will last till the end of April. Therefore, it’s recommended that tourists come for flowers but avoid peak hours.

Zhaishanping Village is only a mountain away from the bustling main urban area. It covers an area of 3.5 square kilometers and stands 530 meters high above sea level. The highest part of the village is located in its center, which is rare in outskirts of Chongqing. Tourists can enjoy the beautiful view lying in the vast area between Zhongliang Mountain and Jinyun Mountain after reaching the summit.

Prunus mume, magnolia × alba, camellia japonica, and early cherry blossoms have blossomed in Group 3 and 4 of Zhaishanping Village. Malus halliana and magnolia liliiflora are expected to blossom in one week and remain in bloom until the end of April.

More than flower admiring

Tourists can challenge the hiking trail with over 1,000 steps in Zhaishanping Village. At the top of the mountain, the great view of Chongqing College Town and Western Jiulong District will come to these mountain climbers.

Apart from mountain climbing and flower admiring, people can also enjoy fishing. Zhaishanping Village has various ponds and reservoirs, offering fishing services at fair prices. Fans of this activity can take all their trophies home while making friends with other fishing lovers.

Many farm-stays enjoying perfect facilities stand on the mountain, which can provide delicious local food. It only costs RMB 128 per person to have three meals and stay overnight.

Zhaishanping, formerly known as Huangcheng (imperial city) and Xiaoliangshan, has a 600-year-long history dating back to the Ming Dynasty. It had 18 gates, including Nanxingmen (South Star Gate), Ping’anmen (Safe Gate), Taipingmen (Peace Gate). However, only six ruins of them remain. City walls surrounding the village extend several kilometers. Other historical sites comprise Chuanyin Stone (a stone can transmit sound), Guanfang (commodes used by imperial family members), battery and the Goddess of Mercy Temple.

Tips:

Since it is the peak hour for visiting the sea of flowers, tourists are better to come here during weekdays. Visitors can drive to Zhaishanping Village Committee of Hangu Town. The parking lot on the mountain can hold over 200 vehicles.
